Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,
I hope you're doing well. I'm writing to you because I have a used bicycle that no longer needed. It is just bought recently a month ago. I remember you have been looking for a reliable transport for work.
First of all, I got a new car recently for my work because the location has changed to 20 miles away from my home. My bicycle is in same place from longer period of time which is no use. I just used for few days after buying it from amazon.
Also, the bicycle comes with automatic milage meter and with a health app. It also has an attached camera where you can see and also capture things while riding. The best part of it is you can track the location and lock from your mobile.
I remember you're looking for a used bicycle with a lot of options at our last meeting at the cafe shop. You can try to come and look at it when you have time its parked in my garage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining why you are no longer using the bike, describing it, and explaining why your friend would like it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the bike focuses on technical features like the 'automatic milage meter' and 'attached camera,' which feels a bit disjointed. To improve, ensure that your explanations flow more naturally and provide more detail to fully develop your points, such as explaining how the bike's features specifically benefit your friend's commute.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all,' 'Also,' and 'The best part of it is.' While these help the reader follow your ideas, the transitions can feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences, such as 'My bicycle is in same place from longer period of time which is no use,' are slightly awkward and hinder the flow of information. Improving the variety of linking words and refining sentence structure would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'reliable transport,' 'attached camera,' and 'track the location.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'automatic milage meter' (likely meaning 'odometer') and 'cafe shop' (redundant, as 'cafe' suffices). There are also minor errors in phrasing, such as 'no longer needed' instead of 'is no longer needed.' To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring that your word choices sound natural in the context of a personal letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'It is just bought recently' (passive voice error), 'My bicycle is in same place from longer period of time' (preposition and article errors), and 'its parked in my garage' (missing apostrophe for 'it's'). These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses, article usage, and punctuation, particularly with contractions.
