Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Dishant,

Sorry for not writing for so long. I hope you and your family are doing alright, especially your small baby girl, Raha.

I am writing you to ask if you are still interested in buying the tricycle for your baby girl, which I have? Because I know last time you came to my house and your kid was really enjoying playing with the bicycle.

I am not using the tricycle currently because we are moving to another Province for some personal reasons so we are planning to sale it in half price if you are showing interest to buy it.

The condition of the tricycle is owned like a new and you know that it is pink colored which will suit your cute little girl. I would suggest you should buy it because your kid is of the age to learn the motor skills and develop their physical ability.

Just give me a call if you would like to buy it.

Best Regards,

Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why you are no longer using the bicycle (moving to another province), described the item (pink tricycle, like new), and provided a clear reason why your friend would want it (motor skills and physical development). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the description of the bicycle, perhaps mentioning its size or any specific features, to make the offer more compelling. Overall, the task is fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical progression, starting with a friendly opening, moving to the purpose of the letter, and concluding with a call to action. Paragraphing is used, though the structure is a bit compressed. You use some cohesive devices like 'because' and 'which', but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition'). Some transitions between sentences feel slightly abrupt, but the overall message remains clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'motor skills' and 'develop their physical ability' are well-chosen. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sale it in half price' (should be 'sell it at half price') and 'owned like a new' (should be 'is like new' or 'is in like-new condition'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would further enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'I am writing you to ask' should be 'I am writing to you to ask', and 'if you are showing interest' is better phrased as 'if you are interested'. There are also minor issues with article usage and verb forms. Despite these errors, your control of basic grammar is generally good, and the errors do not cause confusion for the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
