Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, the writer clearly explains why the bicycle is no longer in use, noting the recent purchase of a car. Second, a detailed description of the bicycle is provided, mentioning the brand, model year, gear count, LED lamps, disc brakes, and comfortable adjustable seat. Finally, the writer explains why the friend would benefit from having it, connecting the bike's features to Vivek's daily commute from home to college and work. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and all ideas are relevant and well-developed. Therefore, this performance meets the criteria for Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear logical organization with an appropriate informal opening and closing. The student uses some cohesive devices such as 'moreover', 'in addition to that', and 'so', although some transitions feel a bit conversational or repetitive. Paragraphing is used to separate the greeting, main body points, and closing remarks, making the progression of ideas easy to follow. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure meets the expectations for a semi-formal or informal letter. This performance fits comfortably within Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'purchased', 'dual LED lamp', 'disc brakes', and 'adjustable'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items, along with minor word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'light on' instead of 'shed light on' or simply 'let you know', and phrasing like 'in accordance of the hight' instead of 'in accordance with the height'. Spelling is generally good with only minor slips ('Mercedece', 'hight'). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, earning a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures (e.g., 'If y'd like to see it or if you want a test ride than please let me know'). There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing present, such as 'I was thinking of that you might be in the need of the bicycle' and 'you can get there by easily'. However, these errors do not impede communication. Punctuation is mostly functional, though spacing around commas and periods could be improved. This reflects the descriptors for Band 6.0.
