Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the prompt. You explain why you are no longer using the bicycle due to a workplace transfer and buying a motor bike, describe its red color, 7 gears, soft seat, and new tires, and explain why your friend would like it because he needs one for school and it is an affordable option compared to a new one. All parts of the prompt are addressed, and your purpose is clear throughout the letter. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended, which is characteristic of this level. To reach a higher standard, you could expand more naturally on the condition of the bike or share a brief personal anecdote about it to fully flesh out the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear friendly opening and logical progression from explaining your situation to describing the bike and proposing the deal. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'If', and 'So' to connect your ideas. However, referencing is occasionally a bit mechanical or repetitive, and paragraphing could be managed with greater flexibility to link related points more smoothly. To progress further, you need to employ a wider and more seamless variety of cohesive ties, ensuring that transitions between paragraphs feel completely natural rather than formulaic, while maintaining a clear and easy-to-follow logical flow throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and attempting some less common vocabulary items such as 'workplace' and 'expensive'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, incorrect word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'planing' instead of planning, 'benifit' instead of benefit, and 'ghat' instead of that. Additionally, phrases like 'soft seat as well as, both tires are new' display awkward collocation and punctuation around vocabulary. To achieve a higher band, you must expand your lexical repertoire, improve spelling accuracy, and use less common phrases with greater precision and stylistic awareness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional clauses like 'If you take a new bicycle, it will cost you...' and relative clauses. There are some grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as 'i hope you will be great', 'distance ... is now increased', and 'go with bicycle at my workplace', but these errors rarely impede communication. Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas before conjunctions, also appear. To move up to the next band, you should aim to increase your control over complex sentence structures, ensuring that tense usage, prepositions, and article choices are accurate across a wider variety of grammatical patterns with frequent error-free sentences.
