Overall4.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

Your response responds to the task only minimally, as you have not met the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, finishing significantly short at only 88 words. Regarding the bullet points, you make a partial attempt to explain why you are no longer using the bicycle by mentioning a busy work schedule, and you attempt to describe it by noting features such as gear shifting and disc brakes. However, your ideas are severely limited and under-developed, leaving the purpose of selling it to a friend and the explanation of why they would like it very vague and incomplete. To reach a higher level, you must fully develop all parts of the prompt with extended explanations and meet the required word length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation in your letter, as you attempt to address different points across a basic structure, but there is no clear overall progression or logical sequencing of ideas. Your paragraphing is absent, with the entire body of the letter crammed into a single block of text, and the closing sign-off is unstructured. Cohesive devices are largely missing or inadequate, and referencing between sentences is weak, such as the repetitive and unclear transition between your bicycle description and your emotional attachment to it. To improve, you should group your ideas into distinct, logical paragraphs and use a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to connect your sentences smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. You attempt to use some less common bicycle-related terms like "gear shifting" and "disk break", but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as spelling "ise" instead of "use", "imotion" instead of "emotion", and using "drive" instead of "ride" for a bicycle. These errors and basic expressions cause some difficulty for the reader and strain communication at times. To progress to a higher band, you need to expand your lexical repertoire, ensure correct word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes by proofreading your writing carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Your response displays a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of run-on simple sentences joined incorrectly by commas rather than proper conjunctions or full stops. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and sentence boundaries, such as "i am bought this bicycle it is a latest version" and "when you can buy it i can drive it when i am having your home". These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and distort meaning in places. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction, use correct punctuation, and incorporate a mix of accurate simple and complex grammatical structures.
