Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Jashan,

I hope you are doing well. I am glad to hear that you cleared your entrance exam and successfully took admission in of the designated college. I saw your advertisement on the marketplace regarding the bicycle. I have one bicycle that I no longer uses becuase my uncle gifted me a electric scooter. I bought this cycle last year to use it for my work.

This bicycle is from Super company and has five years of warranty. This bicycle comes with all necessary equipments such as a handpump, helmet and a small tool kit. This cycle is a best choice for you because it lightweight and comes with unique features.

You will definately like this bicycle to use it for daily purposes. It is very safe to use and comes with a lock chain to keep it secure all the time. You are hoping to start cycling to reduce your weight; therefore this is a best choice for you. Moreover I wil charge you only $200 dollar to give you extra benefit. This cycle was my favourite and bought it with alot of excitement. As a result I want you to bought this cycle rather than selling to a stranger.

If you would like to get more details about it or you want to give it a try please do not hesitate.

Take care,

Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you explain that you no longer need the bicycle because your uncle gave you an electric scooter, describe its warranty and included equipment, and connect it to your friend’s interest in cycling and losing weight. The offer of $200 and your wish to sell it to a friend also make the purpose clear. These relevant details support your recommendation, although some claims are quite general—for example, “unique features” and “very safe” are not explained—and the bicycle’s condition is not specified. Adding a concrete detail about its condition or features would make the description and recommendation more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: a friendly opening leads into the reason for selling, then the bicycle’s features, its suitability for your friend, and a closing invitation. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and connectors such as “therefore” and “Moreover” make relationships between ideas visible. This is a coherent arrangement, though some links feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “You are hoping to start cycling to reduce your weight; therefore this is a best choice” repeats the recommendation rather than developing the connection, while “As a result” does not clearly express the relationship between your excitement about the bicycle and wanting your friend to buy it. Use more precise referencing and transitions to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the bicycle’s features and your reasons for recommending it, including “warranty,” “tool kit,” “secure,” and “daily purposes.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “bicycle” and “cycle,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “cleared your entrance exam,” “necessary equipments,” and “extra benefit.” Spelling errors including “becuase,” “definately,” and “alot” are also noticeable. These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Build a broader set of accurate expressions for describing condition, features, and price, and proofread spelling and countable/uncountable nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because,” a conditional invitation beginning “If,” and a sentence joined by “therefore.” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “one bicycle that I no longer uses,” “it lightweight,” “You are hoping,” and “I want you to bought.” There are also article and preposition problems in “admission in of the designated college” and “a electric scooter.” These patterns show that more consistent control is needed, particularly when combining clauses. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and verb forms after “to,” and revise each sentence for a complete, correctly structured clause.
