Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ram,
I hope you are doing well in your life. I know its been a long time we hangout together since we Complete our secondry school. The main key factor of sending you this letter is that i want to sell my bicycle which i no longer use now. I was mainly using it to went my college because, I lived closeby to my college so it was very convenient and afffordable for me to use bicycle for transportation. But now as i finished my studies i don't need it anymore. Convinently i would like to sell it and i want to let you know if you need that you can take it.
The bicycle is red in color. It have sporty look with shock absorbers in the front and also come witht the disc breaking system. for refrence i am also attaching some pictures of it with this letter.
I heard that you also go to college which is near to your accomodation but you don't have any convey with you to go there and have to use bus which even take plenty of time because of the bus route which cause the wastage of your productive time. So, I think of you have this bicycle it will give you some ease along with that it will also save your bus ticket money.
Let me know what you think about it.
Best Wishes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that you no longer need the bicycle after finishing your studies, describe its red colour and features, and connect it to Ram’s college commute and bus costs. The reasons are relevant and supported, especially the contrast between his current bus journey and the convenience of cycling. The letter also maintains a friendly, appropriate purpose and ends by inviting a response. To make the ideas more fully developed, clarify practical details that would help your friend decide, such as the bicycle’s condition, price, or when he could see it. Overall, the task is covered clearly, although some supporting details remain general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: a friendly opening and reason for writing, a paragraph describing the bicycle, and a final paragraph explaining why it would suit Ram. This organisation makes the message easy to follow, and links such as “But now” and “So” show the relationships between ideas. The closing is also appropriate. At times, however, the first paragraph combines several purposes in a long block, and some links feel mechanical, particularly “The main key factor” and “along with that.” Use paragraphing to separate the background from the offer, and choose simpler, more natural transitions. Clearer reference to the bicycle in the final paragraph would also make the connections smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic and give some specific detail, including “shock absorbers,” “disc braking system,” “convenient,” and “productive time.” However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “afffordable,” “Convinently,” “convey,” and “wastage” are not appropriate or correctly formed in context. Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “main key factor” and “sporty look.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than adding several words with similar meanings. Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms—for example, “transport” rather than “convey”—would make the message more fluent and reliable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including explanations with “because” and a conditional idea about how the bicycle could help Ram. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent. Examples include “we hangout together since we Complete,” “I was mainly using it to went,” “It have,” and “if you need that you can take it.” These patterns reduce accuracy and sometimes make the reader work to interpret the sentence. Practise consistent past and present forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete conditional structures. Breaking the longest sentences into shorter units will also help you control punctuation and grammar.
