Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rahul,
Hey man! how is everything going on! I am writing this letter to discuss with you that I am finding a new job, as you know I was working as an accountant from past 2 years in a company in a town and I was having a contract vacancy for that period. As of next month, my contract is finishing, I am thinking to get shifted to a metropolitian city for the future goals and to a get a particular job.
As you already know, we have completed a bachelor degree in commerce and in addition to it, I have cleared two competitive exams, by which I can get promotions easily. I am trying to find a manager level job with a good salary package.
Lastly, I just want a favour from your side to help me in getting a job, as you have good networking and reputation. I just want you to arrange some interviews from me, so that I can get a job.
Thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that your contract is ending, describe your aim of finding a manager-level role with a good salary, and ask Rahul to arrange interviews. The reason for moving to a metropolitan city and your commerce degree and exam results add relevant context. This meets the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed: for example, you do not explain what kind of management work you are suited to or what specific help Rahul could provide beyond arranging interviews. The friendly tone is appropriate, though a conventional closing and a little more detail about your preferred role would make the letter feel more complete and purposeful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from explaining your current situation, to describing your career goal, and then asking for help. Paragraphing supports these stages, and phrases such as “As you already know” and “Lastly” help guide the reader. The request is easy to identify and the overall organisation is logical. Some linking is a little mechanical, however, particularly the repeated use of “I just want,” and the opening paragraph combines several points in one long sentence. Use a wider range of natural transitions and divide the explanation into shorter, more focused sentences. A closing line before “Thanks” would also give the letter a smoother finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the employment situation and your ambitions, including “contract,” “competitive exams,” “manager level,” and “networking.” These choices show an attempt to use topic-specific language, although some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “contract vacancy,” “good networking and reputation,” and “arrange some interviews from me” do not express the intended meanings idiomatically. There is also a spelling error in “metropolitian.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but more precise collocations would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriate. Aim to choose familiar, accurate phrases rather than translating expressions directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as” and “so that,” and the main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. For example, “from past 2 years” needs an article and a different preposition, while “I was having a contract vacancy” uses an unsuitable tense and construction. In “I am thinking to get shifted,” the verb pattern is incorrect, and “a bachelor degree” also needs an article adjustment. The opening punctuation in “Hey man! how is everything going on!” is not controlled consistently. Review articles, prepositions, verb patterns, and tense choices, then proofread sentence boundaries and capitalization.
