Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Jeny,

I'm so excited to inform you that I'm migrating to your city in two months and actively looking for a new job.

I completed the diploma course in digital marketing field and expecting to receive the certification by end of August. As you know, I thrive to work on the channel sales platform and learnt new techniques and very well communication skills.

I'd like to transform my career path from retail sales to online and utilize all the knowledge and skills which I built so far. In today's digital era, Agentic AI, this would be bring me the greater opportunity to step into the emerging AI world.

As I know, you are a tech person, I'm wondering if you could refer my profile to any of the known companies. I'd be grateful if you could arrange any interviews once I land there.

I'm looking forward to meet you in-person. See you soon. Love you as always.

Yours lovingly,

Vidhya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained your reason for seeking a new job (migrating), described the desired role (digital marketing/channel sales), and included a clear request for your friend's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands your situation and your goals. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific type of company or industry you are targeting, which would further develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph serving a clear purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know' and 'In today's digital era' to link your ideas. The progression of information is easy to follow, moving from your personal news to your professional background and finally to your request. While the structure is sound, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. To improve, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words and phrases to create a more natural flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'migrating', 'digital marketing', and 'career path'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'thrive to work' (should be 'strive to work') and 'very well communication skills' (should be 'excellent communication skills'). Additionally, the phrase 'Agentic AI, this would be bring me' is grammatically awkward and unclear in its lexical intent. Focusing on more precise collocations and ensuring that technical terms are integrated smoothly into your sentences will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'I thrive to work' should be 'I strive to work', and 'expecting to receive' lacks a subject ('I am expecting'). The sentence 'this would be bring me' contains a double verb error. Punctuation is generally correct, but some phrasing is slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex structures are formed accurately without unnecessary auxiliary verbs.
