Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Anuja,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to ask you to find a suitable job for me near your place. I am reloacting in Jalandhar from the next month.
Although I am quite happy with my current job role, in order to enroll in a beauty course in a famous academy in Jalandhar I have to resign. As you may already know I have total 2 years of experience as a receptionist and 3 years as an accountant. I have to support my own living expenses while living in the new city. Therefore, I wonder if you could help me get a job as being a resident of Jalandhar you are aware of employment opportunities.
Primarily, I would prefer the role of a computer operator or of a receptionist. I am comfortable working from 9 am to 4 pm. I expect my minimum salary to be approximately 25000. I am pleased to join any customer facing role as my strong communication skills make me an appropriate candidate for that.
I request you to assist me to get a job suitable for me. I am attaching my CV.
Yours Lovingly,
Amrita.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the reason for your job search (enrolling in a beauty course), described the desired roles (receptionist or computer operator), and made a clear request for your friend's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal yet purposeful style. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about why you are interested in those specific roles or how your friend might specifically assist you, but overall, the task is fully covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your train of thought easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Therefore', and 'Primarily' to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, and the progression of ideas from your situation to your request is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. Phrases like 'employment opportunities', 'customer facing role', and 'living expenses' are used correctly and fit the context well. There are a few minor errors, such as 'reloacting' (spelling) and 'in a famous academy' (which could be more naturally phrased as 'at a reputable academy'). You have a good grasp of functional language for a letter. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives or collocations to describe your skills and expectations, which would elevate the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor slips, such as 'I am reloacting in Jalandhar' (should be 'to Jalandhar') and 'I have total 2 years of experience' (missing an article: 'a total of 2 years'). Additionally, 'I am pleased to join' is slightly awkward; 'I would be happy to take on' would be more natural. Despite these small errors, your meaning is never obscured, and you demonstrate good control over basic and intermediate grammatical structures.
