Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for leaving, describing the desired job, and asking for help. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which severely limits the development of ideas. The explanation for leaving is brief, and the description of the desired job is quite generic. Because the response is 37 words short of the requirement, it fails to fully develop the points as expected for a Task 1 letter, resulting in a lower score for task coverage and development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into two short paragraphs, which is appropriate for a personal letter. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the news of resignation to the request for assistance. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. There is a reliance on simple transitions like 'So' and 'Certainly'. While the letter is easy to follow, the lack of length prevents the use of more sophisticated linking words or a more complex paragraph structure, keeping the coherence score at a mid-level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'get to it' and 'brought me here to writing you' are slightly unnatural or grammatically awkward. There is an attempt to use some relevant terminology, such as 'enhanced skills' and 'renowned IT companies', but the overall range is limited. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The word 'advise' is used incorrectly here; it should be the noun 'advice'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentences. There are several grammatical errors that impact the flow, such as 'the last month we talked' (should be 'last month when we talked') and 'brought me here to writing you for you assistance' (should be 'writing to you for your assistance'). While the meaning remains clear, these errors are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures. Improving accuracy in prepositions and word forms will help raise your score.
