Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Ram,
Hope this mail finds you well. I am writing this letter to seek a help from you to find a suitable part time job for me.
Actually, as you know I moved here in this city just last week to continue my further studies in accounting. Here as I am living in a rented apartment I have to somehow manage to pay my rent, groceries and other bills by myself. You are also well aware of my family financial conditions, and due to which I feel shame to ask for help from them.
I am attending my accounting classes in morning six days in a row every week , which allows me to work only evening shifts. Also, I am looking for job in same field if possible that will help me with a relevant job background to search for my future job.
As you are living here since many years and must have made some contacts, so you can probably help me to find a decent part time job for me. Moreover, you know me very well which makes you a perfect fit to be as my reference. I will be very thankful to you if you can help me to find one.
looking forward for your response.
Your's truly,
Kom

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for seeking employment (financial independence and rent), described the desired role (part-time, accounting-related), and made a clear request for your friend's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and sincere voice throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of moving to a new city for studies. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are balanced; your explanation of the job type is slightly less detailed than the explanation of your financial situation, but overall, the task is fully satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to your personal circumstances, then to the specific job requirements, and finally to the request for help. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate these distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Actually,' 'Moreover,' and 'Also' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. For instance, the transition between your financial situation and your morning class schedule could be more fluidly connected to improve the overall cohesion of the middle section.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'relevant job background,' 'financial conditions,' and 'suitable part time job.' The language is natural and appropriate for an informal letter. There are a few minor word choice issues, such as 'seek a help' (should be 'seek help') and 'living here since many years' (should be 'have been living here for many years'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and verb tenses. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions would further enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I moved here in this city' (should be 'to this city'), 'due to which I feel shame' (should be 'because of which'), and 'Your's truly' (should be 'Yours truly'). Additionally, there are some minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, as these are recurring areas where your accuracy could be strengthened.
