Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aman,
Hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to express my interest in finding new job.
It's been 4 years I'm doing my current job as a manager at Tim Horton's. I have given my 100% to this job but I have never received an appreciation and rase in my salary. Moreover, I feel stressed due the factor that I have numbers of target to meet and all have there deadlines. I feel my salary is not worth as my hard-work.
I now have decided to look up for a job that gives me a freedom of work and in which my work would be appreciate. I am thinking of applying in bank as customer service agent. There would not be any kind of pressure and I will be paid according to my work. There I think would be an opportunity of getting promotion and enhancing more skills.
Could you please advice me and help me in applying for a better job with more career opportunities.
Yours lovingly,
Ramneet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your reasons for leaving your current job, described your desired role as a customer service agent in a bank, and included a request for your friend's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more nuanced, perhaps by elaborating on how your friend's specific experience could assist you in your job search.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'I now have decided' to link your ideas. However, the progression between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between your current job frustrations and your future career goals could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'there' in the third paragraph) is always clear to the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant job-related terms like 'customer service agent', 'deadlines', and 'promotion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'rase in my salary' (should be 'raise') and 'look up for a job' (should be 'look for'). Additionally, 'due the factor that' is slightly unnatural. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over common collocations and spelling to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'It's been 4 years I'm doing' (should be 'It has been 4 years since I started'), 'all have there deadlines' (should be 'their'), and 'work would be appreciate' (should be 'appreciated'). There are also minor issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'applying in bank' (should be 'applying to a bank'). These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and passive voice construction will help improve your accuracy.
