Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear inder,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing you this for a new job because I am doing retail job as you know, but now I want to go for healthcare job. As you know that I have studied so hard to go for healthcare job. The city where I am already living has already so much competition I am trying to find job here but I am not able to find it. So can you help me to find job in Halifax because there is less population and it is easy to find job there. You are already living there and you are aware of all things in your city. I will really appreciate it if you will help me to find job there. If I will move to this city if can find a good job here and go further deep in this field.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired role, and requesting assistance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention wanting a 'healthcare job,' you do not specify the exact nature of the role or your qualifications, which would make the request more convincing. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the overall development is quite brief. To improve, try to elaborate more on your specific skills or the type of healthcare environment you are interested in to provide a more complete picture for your friend.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the reason for writing to the specific request for help. However, the paragraphing is non-existent, which makes the text appear as a single block. Using paragraphs to separate the introduction, the body (explaining the situation and the request), and the closing would significantly improve the structure. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive; you rely heavily on 'As you know' and 'because.' Incorporating a wider variety of linking words, such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'in addition,' would help the flow of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'retail' and 'healthcare.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of phrases like 'find a job' and 'go for.' To reach a higher band, try to use more varied synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'find a job,' you could use 'secure a position' or 'land a role.' The word choice is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the flow. For example, 'I am writing you this for a new job' is slightly unnatural; 'I am writing to you about a new job' would be better. There are also issues with articles ('the healthcare job' vs 'a healthcare job') and sentence structure, such as 'If I will move to this city if can find a good job.' These errors are noticeable, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your overall meaning.
