Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Steve,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to tell you that I just moved permanently to your town last week. Fortunately, I found the stable accommodation.

However, the thing I am being concern about is my job. I lost my job because it was too far away from this town and now I am looking for a full-time role in our town.

Although, I am looking for a job in sales. Nevertheless, comfortable with any kind of entry level position.

I have applied to multiple jobs not only on online platforms but also to job providing companies. It would be so helpful, if you could help me to land on my full-time role.

Regards,

Neel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired role, and asking for help. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. The explanation of why you are looking for a job is clear, but the description of the desired role is brief and lacks detail. To improve, you should expand on your skills, previous experience, or specific industries you are interested in to provide a more comprehensive response that meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear opening and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, which helps the reader follow the flow. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes awkward or incorrect. For example, 'Although, I am looking for a job in sales. Nevertheless, comfortable with...' uses 'Although' and 'Nevertheless' incorrectly as sentence starters. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help the text flow more naturally and improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for a simple letter to a friend, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. Phrases like 'job providing companies' are unnatural; 'recruitment agencies' would be more appropriate. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'the thing I am being concern about', which should be 'the thing I am concerned about'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more specific professional vocabulary and ensure collocations are accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I found the stable accommodation' (incorrect article usage), 'the thing I am being concern about' (incorrect verb form), and 'comfortable with any kind' (missing subject). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence fragments and tense issues suggest a need for more careful proofreading. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
