Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Neel,
Hope you’re doing well? I’m writing to let you know that currently I’m looking for a new job and I need your favour to find an appropriate role.
The reason for looking changes in my current role and company is due to the low salary and less opportunity for career growth in the current organisation. Due to this, I’m unable to take more commitments and also I’m forced to do various compromise on my daily life.
Since 10 years I’m working with finance industry and have acumens, vast knowledge based on this particular field. I’d like to look higher position in the same domain to enhance my skills and also achieve my desire goal.
I know you’re also working in the same field for last 8 years, I’m very definite that you will have various contacts to help me and refer me to get desire placement.
I am hoping to hear from you soon.
Warm regards,
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for leaving, the desired role, and a request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why you are looking for a new job is clear, but the description of the 'kind of job' you want is a bit vague, focusing more on the level (higher position) than the specific nature of the role. To reach a higher band, ensure that each bullet point is expanded with more specific detail or personal context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. The progression of ideas is clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Due to this' and 'Since 10 years' are used to link ideas, but the flow could be improved with a wider variety of linking words and better referencing. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the explanation of the current situation and the request for help could be smoother to improve the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'appropriate role', 'career growth', and 'domain'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the natural flow. For example, 'I need your favour to find' is not standard; 'I would appreciate your help' would be more natural. Additionally, 'have acumens' is an incorrect usage of the noun 'acumen'. While the meaning is clear, the vocabulary lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'Since 10 years I’m working' (should be 'I have been working for 10 years') and 'I’m forced to do various compromise' (should be 'make various compromises'). The punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure is occasionally awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on verb tenses and noun-verb collocations will help improve your accuracy.
