Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired role, and requesting assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, although the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the desired job is quite vague, focusing more on the desire to 'invest time' rather than specific roles or industries. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete details about the type of IT role you are seeking and why you are particularly interested in your friend's company. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Being my senior and good friend' and 'As you are a senior manager', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from discussing your graduation to asking for a referral could be smoother with better linking phrases. Paragraphing is present, but the overall structure could be improved by ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects more fluidly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message, including terms like 'vacant', 'graduate', and 'techniques'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'seeking for full time job' (should be 'seeking a full-time job'), 'done with my graduate' (should be 'finished my degree'), and 'help me referencing over there' (should be 'provide a reference'). These errors do not prevent understanding, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a full time job'), verb forms ('I am completely free looking'), and prepositions. Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as the missing comma after 'Dear Aditya' and the incorrect closing 'Your sincerely' (should be 'Yours sincerely'). While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
