Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Lauren,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to let you know that I am currently looking for a part-time job opportunity, as I was planning for the Malta trip next month. This financial support will help me to enjoy my holidays and spend more on shopping without thinking for its cost.
I had an expreince working as a Restaurant Manager, and it would be great if I get the similar job roles, because this help me to stand out from other applications better and hold a clear chance to secure those vacanies. Although, I am open to any jobs like store manager, kitchen porter and any other kitchen related jobs as my motive is to just earn money at this point.
It would be great if you can refer me to your restaurant or you can suggest me some of the job openings that are hiring at the moment, that would be a great help for me. Incase you are busy with your priorties currently, it won't create any trouble between our friendship.
I will look forward to hear from you soon. I will appreciate your efforts.
Best wishes,
Preet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the job search (funding a trip to Malta), describing the desired role (Restaurant Manager or similar), and requesting assistance from the friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and developed sufficiently to meet the task requirements. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the closing is polite and appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the reason for the request to the specific job preferences and finally the call to action. Cohesive devices such as 'as', 'although', and 'in case' are used effectively to link ideas. While the flow is generally good, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be slightly more fluid to enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their needs clearly. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'expreine' (experience), 'vacanies' (vacancies), and 'priorties' (priorities). While the range is sufficient to convey the message, it lacks a wider variety of more sophisticated or precise collocations. However, the word choice is generally natural and appropriate for an informal letter, and the errors do not impede the reader's understanding of the content.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'I was planning for the Malta trip' (should be 'I am planning'), 'without thinking for its cost' (should be 'without thinking about the cost'), and 'I will look forward to hear from you' (should be 'looking forward to hearing'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient for this task type.
