Dear _________,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing well! I am writing to tell you about trying to find a white job.
First of all, I wanted to tell you that I am looking for a new job. The main reason is that I want to pursue further studies to build a bright future. I thought you might find this relevant: high-paying jobs are often available only to degree holders.
Also, I want to take on my responsibilities instead of depending on my parents. In fact, nowadays, people are not only studying but also taking care of their elders. I think this would be helpful for my parents because they can save some money for the future.
Finally, I will also gain work experience. I would really appreciate it if you could help me to prepare a resume. Let me know what you think and when you have spare time.
Anyway, I have to go now. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Amrit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired job, and asking for help. However, the description of the 'kind of job' you would like is missing. You mention wanting a 'white job' (which is unclear) and needing a high-paying job, but you do not specify the industry, role, or type of work you are seeking. To improve, ensure you provide concrete details about the position you are targeting. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Also', and 'Finally' to transition between ideas. While these are functional, they are somewhat mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between your desire for further studies and the request for help with a resume could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the letter maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are some unnatural word choices. The phrase 'white job' is not standard English and is confusing in this context. You use some good phrases like 'pursue further studies' and 'gain work experience', which demonstrate a reasonable range. However, to reach a higher band, you should avoid vague phrasing and aim for more precise collocations. Spelling is accurate throughout, and your word choice is sufficient to convey your meaning without causing significant confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are grammatically accurate, and errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. For example, 'I would really appreciate it if you could help me' is a well-constructed complex sentence. There are minor issues with phrasing, such as 'take on my responsibilities', which is slightly awkward; 'take on more responsibility' would be more natural. Punctuation is generally correct, and the overall control of grammar is solid for this level.
