Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Famia,
I hope you are doing splendidly! It's has been a long time since we caught up with each other. I've a news for you that I've decided to look a new job for me.
Actually, I've been working as a computer operator as a part-time job but now I want to switch my position. As you know, I've completed MSCS recently and I got my degree last month.
Furthermore, I want to work as a lecturer in the relevant area. My field is an emerging field and there are various sub categories of computer science. I know I can easily find a perfect job in Cyber Security or Web Development.
Therefore, I need your help to find a vacancy for me but keep in mind it should be match with my expertise. I have applied for several positions but I've not received any updates yet.
I will be pleased to find your assistance.
Warmly,
Rabia Kanwal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why you are looking for a new job (wanting to switch from a part-time role after completing your degree), described the desired role (lecturer in Cyber Security or Web Development), and asked your friend for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, ensuring the reader understands your current situation and your specific goals. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more detail about the specific type of company or environment you are hoping to work in to further develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression from your current situation to your future aspirations and finally your request for help. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Therefore', and 'Actually' to link your ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit thin; while the letter is short, grouping your thoughts into more distinct paragraphs would improve the visual structure. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme to enhance the overall flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'splendidly', 'emerging field', and 'expertise'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I've a news for you' (should be 'I have some news') and 'it should be match with' (should be 'it should match'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over common English collocations. To improve, focus on learning how specific verbs and nouns pair together and avoid literal translations from your native language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'It's has been' (should be 'It has been'), 'look a new job' (should be 'look for a new job'), and 'I got my degree' (which is acceptable but could be more formal). The sentence 'I've a news for you' is also grammatically incorrect. While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions after verbs.
