Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Boothang,
I trust you are doing well. I wanted to let you know that i am in search of a new job. i will be needing assistance in getting a remote Virtual assistance job, i hope you can help me with that.
Over the years, working as an on-site worker has really drained me. The work load in my present hospital work setting is a whole lot for me, it is so demanding and tasking that i barely have time for myself. Additional, my mum is diagonsed for a heart condition, and the doctor advised on bed rest and full attension and care for her. This lead to me looking for a new less tasking work inorder to properly take care of my mum.
I would prefer a full time remote work, Virtual Assistance to be precise. i did an online course on this role last year and it is one i have interest and passion for. This work role will help me take adequate care of my mum as i will be working from home.
I will be needing your help in helping me land a new job. You are the best person I can ask for assistance on this. i'm aware you have friends working in administrative and executive firms, will love if you can help me speak to them on my behalf if they will be needing my services.
Thank you for your help in advance. i will call you soon, so we can discuss further.
with love,
Esther.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired role, and requesting assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The explanation regarding the hospital workload and the mother's health provides a clear, logical motivation for the career change. The description of the 'Virtual Assistance' role is specific, and the request for help is clearly articulated. The response is well-developed and maintains a consistent focus throughout, meeting all requirements of the task prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose: the introduction, the motivation, the job description, and the request for help. Cohesive devices such as 'Over the years', 'Additional', and 'This work role' are used to link ideas, although 'Additional' is a slight misuse of the adverbial form (should be 'Additionally'). Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different stages of the letter. The flow is natural, and the relationship between the ideas is easy to follow, contributing to a coherent whole.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing for clear communication. There are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'tasking' (which is informal/non-standard in this context) and 'diagonsed for' (should be 'diagnosed with'). The student attempts to use specific terminology like 'administrative and executive firms', which is positive. However, there are some spelling errors ('attension', 'diagonsed') and minor collocation issues. While the range is sufficient to convey the message, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several recurring grammatical errors, particularly with capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I') and punctuation (comma splices in sentences like 'The work load... is a whole lot for me, it is so demanding...'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage also show occasional lapses, such as 'diagonsed for' and 'advised on bed rest'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. A more careful proofreading of basic grammar would significantly improve the quality.
