Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why you are looking for a job, describing the desired role, and asking for your friend's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. However, some ideas could be developed further to reach a higher band. For example, while you mention wanting to work in health care, providing more specific details about the type of facility or the specific duties you hope to perform would strengthen the response. The letter is well-structured and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Another reason is' and 'So, I just want your help', which help the reader follow your train of thought. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall progression of ideas is clear, making the letter easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'PSW program', 'health care profession', and 'long-term care facility' correctly. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'PR filling process' (should be 'PR application process') and 'get these jobs' (could be 'find these opportunities'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it is somewhat basic. Incorporating more precise or idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score. Overall, the vocabulary is functional and appropriate for the informal context of a letter to a friend.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, 'I worked at Tim Hortons... from last one year' should be 'for the last year', and 'I love to spend some with elder people' should be 'spend time with the elderly'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositions throughout the text. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of English syntax to achieve a higher band.
