Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing well. As you know already, I have successfully completed my medical administration studies, and now I am looking for a good organization where I could get a job and apply my skills. I mainly require an opportunity in a physiotherapy clinic that offers growth opportunities in terms of organizing workshops for their employees to learn new skills and providing health benefits. As a manager of such a well-known clinic, you have a good network of people working in the same field, and I would appreciate it if you could find a valuable reference from someone working in such an organization. If you find any opportunity in which you believe I could fit well, please let me know.
Thanking you in advance. I hope we will meet soon.
Regards,
Supreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the job search, describing the desired role, and asking for assistance. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of ideas. While the purpose is clear, the content is somewhat brief, particularly in the description of the job and the request for help. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your reasons and provide more detail about the specific skills you wish to apply. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, though it leans slightly formal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, moving from the reason for writing to the specific request. Ideas are sequenced clearly, and the progression is easy to follow. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As you know' and 'If you find', which help link the sentences. However, the letter lacks paragraphing, which is a key requirement for a structured response. To improve, ensure you use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the body points, and the closing. The current structure is a single block, which negatively impacts the overall flow and visual organization of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'medical administration studies', 'organization', and 'valuable reference'. The language is generally accurate and conveys your meaning clearly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and lacks the variety of less common lexical items that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and varied synonyms. For example, instead of 'good organization', you could use 'reputable institution' or 'dynamic workplace' to show a more sophisticated command of English.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional sentence 'If you find any opportunity... please let me know.' Most sentences are grammatically accurate, and errors do not impede communication. There is a minor issue with the phrasing 'valuable reference from someone', which is slightly unnatural in this context. While your control of grammar is generally good, the range of structures is somewhat limited. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or passive constructions, would help demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility.
