Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Mantra,

I hope you're doing well. I am writing to let you know that I finally decided to look for a new job. Although I have earned a lot in my current position, there are limited opportunities for a career growth and professional development. I would like to take on new challenges and improve my skills in a more rewarding environment.

I am interested in finding a job that offers better career development and allow me to use my experience effectively. Ideally, I would like a position with greater responsbilites, a supportive team, and opportunities for training and advancement. A job related to my skills and experience would be perfect.

As you have wide network and good connection with other organization. I was wondering if you could help me find a suitable job. If you hear of any vacancies that match my qualification and skills, please let me know. I would be very greatful for any advice or recommendations you can provide.

Thank you for your support. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Neel Mistry.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain the motivation for leaving your current job, describe the desired role, and make a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent personal style throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, providing enough detail to satisfy the requirements of a General Training Task 1. The structure is logical, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is well-organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your train of thought easily. You use cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Ideally', and 'As you have' to link ideas effectively. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to reach the highest band. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and the letter is easy to read.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a professional yet friendly context, such as 'professional development', 'rewarding environment', and 'vacancies'. There are a few minor errors, such as 'greatful' (spelling: grateful) and 'responsbilites' (spelling: responsibilities). Additionally, the phrase 'good connection with other organization' is slightly awkward; 'connections with other organizations' would be more natural. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free. However, there are a few grammatical slips, such as 'allow me' instead of 'allows me' (subject-verb agreement) and 'As you have wide network' which is missing an article ('a wide network'). These errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication. Your control of punctuation is generally good, and the overall grammatical accuracy is high enough to support a solid band score.
