Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rita,

I hope this letter finds you well.

I am writing this to you because I have really important news that I want to discuss with you As you know that , I have been working in the Clyde hospital for more than 5 years but recently I have been facing so many problems with them and that is the reason I have decided to quit this job and searching for a new job.

As you may know that , Recently I had to deal with so many complaints about the doctors and other staff members from the visitors that staff members are not welcoming they are rude on the top of that if i say something to them they should not listen me and always try to give me hard time which is really inappropriate behaviour towards a staff members as well as visitors that makes very wrong impression towards hospital image.

I am really done with this kind of environment and toxicity and I am really looking forward to start a new job in hospital , I am hoping that you will help me to find a new job in the same field as i have a experience in this field.

I am really looking forward to spend some quality time with you during this weekend

Yours lovingly,

Hardi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for leaving, describing the desired job, and asking for help. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation for leaving is quite detailed, but the description of the 'kind of job' is vague, simply stating 'in the same field'. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the role, such as the type of hospital department or the specific responsibilities you are seeking. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and informal style throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'I am really' to start sentences. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences could be smoother. For example, the connection between the complaints about staff and the decision to quit could be linked more effectively using a wider variety of linking words or phrases to improve the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'toxicity', 'inappropriate behaviour', and 'impression'. However, there is a reliance on basic or repetitive phrasing, such as 'really important', 'really done', and 'really looking forward'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and adverbs to express your feelings and describe the situation. There are also some minor word-choice issues, such as 'searching for a new job' instead of 'to search for a new job' or 'I have a experience' instead of 'I have experience'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the Clyde hospital'), verb forms ('they should not listen me'), and punctuation (missing commas or unnecessary spaces before punctuation). Some sentences are run-on, such as the second paragraph, which lacks proper sentence boundaries. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage would greatly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
