Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Kaushik,
I hope this message find you well. I am writing this letter to let you know that i am looking for new job. There are numerous reason behind it.
Firstly, my company is in very remote place and i have to work in shift duty. So i have to travel to and fro 100 km everyday. Also i have to work in night shift too which i do not like as it may affect health and social activities.
Furthermore, we do not have any increment in salary since last year and there are less oppurtinities to learn more stuff and to get promotion due to steady organasation work flow.
However, My colleague are very respectful and generous, they taught me a different skills and we have a very good bond. Due to remote location and shift schedule, i would like to change job.
Please help me to find out new job which is nearer to my home town and which has regular shift from morning 08:00 am to evening 04:00 pm, and also who will offer good annual salary package, other benifits.
I am waiting for positive response from you and i am very greatful if you help me in this matter.
Thanks and regards,
Mayank Desai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, Mayank explains why he is looking for a new job, citing the remote location, tiring commute, undesirable night shifts, and lack of salary increments. Second, he clearly describes the kind of job he wants, mentioning proximity to his hometown, regular morning hours, and a good salary package. Third, he explicitly asks his friend Kaushik for help in finding this new opportunity. The tone of the letter is appropriate for writing to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are adequately supported and extended, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 to Band 7.0. Because all parts of the task are well-covered with relevant details, a solid band score of 6.5 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used logically to separate different ideas, such as the introduction, the reasons for leaving, positive aspects of the current job, and the request for assistance. Cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', and 'However' are employed to structure the response, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are also slight referencing issues, such as 'who will offer good annual salary package', where the relative pronoun 'who' does not correctly refer to an organization or job position. Despite these minor cohesive slips, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow. This performance comfortably aligns with the Band 6.5 descriptors, earning a score of 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Mayank demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating personal experiences and career preferences. Words like 'remote location', 'shift schedule', and 'annual salary package' are used appropriately. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'oppurtinities' (opportunities), 'organasation' (organization), 'greatful' (grateful), and 'benifits' (benefits). The writer also relies on some basic descriptors like 'good stuff' and 'different skills'. While these lexical inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching higher bands. The range is sufficient and attempts less common items, but errors in spelling and collocation keep this firmly at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional and causative structures such as 'which is nearer to my home town and which has regular shift'. There are, however, several noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope this message find you well' (finds), 'looking for new job' (a new job), 'travel to and fro 100 km everyday' (travel 100 km to and fro), and 'we do not have any increment in salary since last year' (have not had). Punctuation and capitalization are occasionally neglected, as seen in lowercase 'i'. These errors cause some irritation for the reader but do not impede understanding, reflecting the standard characteristics of a Band 6.0 performance.
