Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Zunaira,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am reaching to you for the sake of suggestion and help. You know I'm working as a physiotherapist at a ABC medical complex and the situations at my current job are getting worse for me. I'm not seeing any personal growth and professional growth here. Even when the time of appraisals is nearer they are just torturing the staff mentally. Now a days it's getting harder to be in this system.
I have always been a keen learner and motivated for learning new skills. I joined the new course for professional development that gave me new dimensions and thought of thinking regarding our field. Now I am seeking a for new job.
I would like to get job in academics now,as it's getting tough to work only with patients. As patients demand more physical efforts and energy.
I want you to help me in searching a new job. That should be in university as a senior lecturer as I have four years of experiece , which is appropriate for most of the institutes and as per their eligibility criteria. You also know that we have lerned from the governement institutes and have attending many research conferences along with it I have published five research articles in X- category journals which could make my resume distinguish from others.
I will be very thankful to you in this regard. It will be an act of kindness if you refer my resume to your employer. I am waiting for your response.
Your sincerely
Areeba

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points of the task prompt in an informal, friendly letter format suitable for a General Training Task 1. You clearly explain why you are looking for a new job, citing a lack of professional growth and a stressful environment at your current medical complex. You describe the kind of job you would like to have, specifically mentioning a senior lecturer position in an academic setting within a university. Finally, you explicitly ask your friend for help by requesting that she refer your resume to her employer. The purpose of the letter is entirely clear and the tone is appropriate for communicating with a friend. Although there are some minor mechanical errors in vocabulary and phrasing, all parts of the task are well-developed and addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter demonstrates a clear overall structure, beginning with a natural opening and ending with an appropriate sign-off. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the current situation to career aspirations and finally to the specific request for help. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the reasons for leaving versus the job search request. However, there are some minor issues with cohesion and referencing. For example, expressions like 'Now a days' and occasional abrupt sentence transitions could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to fragmentations and minor punctuation issues. Overall, cohesion is functional and supports clear communication throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate and relevant range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using field-specific terms such as 'physiotherapist', 'professional development', 'eligibility criteria', and 'research articles'. There are, however, several noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'reaching to you' instead of 'reaching out to you', 'seeking a for new job', 'thought of thinking', and 'resume distinguish'. Spelling is generally good, but there are minor slips like 'lerned' and 'attending'. While you attempt some less common vocabulary, inaccuracies in collocation and preposition usage prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound and subordinate clauses, such as 'Even when the time of appraisals is nearer they are just torturing the staff mentally.' There are, however, frequent grammatical errors and punctuation flaws that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include fragment sentences ('As patients demand more physical efforts and energy.'), incorrect verb tenses or participles ('have attending'), and missing articles ('get job in academics', 'in university'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains comprehensible throughout, placing the grammar comfortably within the Band 6 descriptor.
