Student answer (Band 6.5)

Daer Anil,

I am feeling absolutely delighted and cherishing to tell you that I have completely recovered from my knee injury and now its the correct time to earn some money and get back to the work so I am desperately looking fo a job.

Firstly, As you are already aware that before the tragic accident happened and I hurt my knee I was working as a software engineer for the mulit-nationational firm for more than 3 years. Therefore, I am specifically looking for a software developer position as I already have industry experience along with required skills and knowledge.

However, I am totally aware that I can not get handsome salary package as I was getting in the previous workplace due to my job experience, therefore I am ready to work as an intern for first few weeks and then I would defineately expect raise in my salary depending on my skills and adaptability.

You are a very reputed job recruiter in our hometown that is why I am requesting you to please find me a decent job so that I can earn for my family and enhance my engineering skills even more better.

I am looking forward to hearing from you,

Thanks and Regards,

Tarspreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions effectively. You successfully explain why you are looking for a job by mentioning your recovery from a knee injury and your desire to get back to work. You also clearly describe the kind of job you want, specifically looking for a software developer position based on your past experience. Finally, you ask your friend Anil to help you find a job by utilizing his background as a recruiter. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the ideas are extended well with relevant details such as your willingness to work as an intern initially. Overall, the task is fully and appropriately addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is logically organised with a clear opening, body paragraphs handling distinct points, and an appropriate closing. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure your thoughts, moving from your personal situation to your professional background and finally to your direct request. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'therefore' are used to connect ideas, although the transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of information makes the letter easy to follow and read smoothly from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items and industry-specific terms such as 'software engineer', 'multinational firm', 'intern', and 'adaptability'. However, there are some noticeable spelling errors, such as 'Daer' instead of 'Dear', 'mulit-nationational', 'fo' instead of 'for', and 'defineately'. Additionally, some word choices and collocations could be more natural, such as 'cherishing to tell you' or 'even more better', which contain double comparatives. Despite these vocabulary and spelling slips, communication is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive and causal clauses using 'although', 'because', and 'therefore'. There is a good attempt at forming long, detailed sentences. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, including run-on sentences with multiple clauses joined loosely by conjunctions without adequate punctuation (e.g., '...and get back to the work so I am desperately looking fo a job'). There are also occasional article omissions or misuses. The errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
