Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly explain why you are looking for a new job, citing stagnant promotion prospects and a lack of salary increases as your current supervisor. You also describe the kind of role you would like to have, specifically mentioning your passion for chemistry-related tasks like HPLC testing and Sulphur tests. Finally, you successfully ask your friend for help in finding a new opportunity and propose checking for openings in their organization. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout the letter, matching the General Training requirements well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, making good use of paragraphing to separate different points, such as your reasons for leaving, your desired job, and your request for help. Cohesive devices are used adequately with words like 'Although', 'Beside this', and 'Could you please', though some transitions are slightly repetitive or mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow from the introductory greeting down to the closing sign-off.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for a workplace context, using terms such as 'quality control supervisor', 'analytical skills', and 'chemical industry'. However, there are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as writing 'started looking' instead of 'starting', 'am found of' instead of 'fond of', and 'Chemicals excites me' instead of 'excite'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies and spelling issues like 'linkdien', the vocabulary is adequate to convey your meaning clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures such as 'As a quality control supervisor, my duties...' and 'I know you are working in...'. However, there are several noticeable grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('their is no promotion', 'Chemicals excites me', 'Those kind of roles required', 'their is ny opening'), preposition errors ('since the college time'), and punctuation slips ('cafe;'). These errors do not impede overall communication, but they lower the accuracy score.
