Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, fulfilling the requirements for a general training letter to a friend. You clearly explained why you are looking for a new job by mentioning that your previous warehouse position required too much physical demand and that you needed a change after an accident. You also described the kind of job you would like to have, specifically an office role with administrative duties, and asked your friend for help by inquiring about potential vacancies at their immigration office. All bullet points are covered with a clear, consistent personal tone appropriate for writing to a friend. To reach the next level, your ideas could be slightly more extended and supported with additional specific details regarding your ideal working environment or schedule, but the current coverage is fully clear and relevant throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall arrangement with an appropriate opening and closing, and the transition of ideas from your resignation to your desired job and finally your request for help follows a logical progression. You use basic cohesive devices adequately to connect your thoughts, such as 'As you know' and 'please let me know'. However, the referencing and linking between sentences occasionally feel a bit mechanical, and paragraphing could be managed with greater precision to separate distinct ideas more fluidly. To move towards a higher band, you would need to use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that transitions between your personal news, job preferences, and specific requests flow more naturally without abrupt shifts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message with everyday words and phrases such as 'warehouse job', 'office administrative experience', and 'searching online'. You make some attempts at less common vocabulary, but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'got an accident' instead of 'was in an accident', 'give me time to take rest' instead of 'allow me to rest', and 'hiring going on'. Additionally, there are minor mechanical errors like the lowercase 'i'. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but to achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary with more precise word choices and natural collocations suited to the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. You successfully use clauses to explain reasons and make requests, such as 'I am writing this letter because i want to search for a new job.' However, there are several grammatical errors, including run-on sentences or comma splices like 'I quit my warehouse job, it requires alot of physical demand' and 'We would catch up soon, and let me know'. While these errors rarely impede communication, they persist throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you should aim to produce more frequent error-free sentences by improving your punctuation, particularly with regard to comma usage and conjunctions, and by refining your control over complex sentence structures.
