Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt. You explain why you are looking for a new job by mentioning that it will help with your permanent residency goal and save travel time. You also describe the kind of job you would like to have, specifically as a physiotherapist or therapist, and you clearly ask your friend to help you find a job by providing a reference. While all requirements are met, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation regarding the PR goal and the job description could have been expanded with more specific detail. To reach a higher level, you need to fully extend and support all your ideas with richer elaboration throughout the letter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows an appropriate informal letter format with a clear greeting and sign-off. Paragraphing is utilized to separate different parts of your message, such as your reasons for applying and your request for a reference. However, the cohesion feels somewhat mechanical in places, and referencing or transitions between ideas could be smoother. There are also occasional mechanical issues such as missing spaces after punctuation marks like periods and commas. To achieve a higher band, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally to link your thoughts together without any awkward pauses in the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to a friend about a job opportunity. You make some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'permanent residency goal' and 'referencing', but there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'physciotherapist', 'wonderning', 'massager', and 'sumbitted'. These lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they highlight the limitations in your control of word forms and spelling. To improve your lexical score, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary more precisely, pay closer attention to word formation, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes through careful proofreading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses like 'as you know this job can help me...'. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing capitalization at the beginning of sentences and after punctuation, as well as minor preposition and article issues like 'in which a well known company thc is hiring for physciotherapist' and 'if there is position'. These errors are characteristic of a competent control where mistakes rarely impede communication. To move up to a higher band, you should aim for a higher proportion of error-free sentences and tighten your control over punctuation, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns.
