Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score in this category. You clearly explain your motivation for seeking a new job, stating that you recently graduated with a master's degree in health care management and wish to transition into an administration role. Furthermore, you describe the kind of position you desire—specifically a record clerk role locally—and you directly ask your friend Isabella for help, fulfilling the third bullet point. The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter. While the ideas are adequately extended and supported throughout the letter, some points, such as the exact nature of the help you need, could have been elaborated further to reach the highest performance levels.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear, friendly opening and closing. You have organised the content into logical paragraphs that separate your greetings, your reasons for job-hunting, and your specific request for assistance. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Last but not the least' are slightly overused or awkward in an informal letter. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you use 'it' multiple times in sentences like 'being a clerk, it helps me a lot' and 'which I do not have it', which disrupts the natural flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to employment and your field, such as 'health care sector', 'master degree', and 'qualification'. However, there are noticeable errors in word form and word choice, such as writing 'health care sector' without an article, or using 'administrator' instead of 'administrative'. Phrases like 'keep looking' instead of 'kept looking' or 'continuing to look' also show limitations in lexical control. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they prevent you from achieving a higher band because of persistent slips in word selection and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but it is marred by frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. There are tense and verb form inaccuracies, such as 'since we see each other' instead of 'since we saw each other', and 'I have gave my resignation letter' instead of 'I gave my resignation'. Additionally, there are structural errors involving unnecessary pronouns, such as 'I have been keep looking' and 'which I do not have it'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, particularly with comma splices after introductory phrases and clauses. These issues mean that your control over complex structures is not yet consistent enough for higher bands.
