Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ram,
I hope you're doing well. I am writing to ask you for your help to find a job in retail sector.
As you know, I am working as a assistent manager in Canada Bread company. Due to late night shifts, I am getting some health issues, so docter recommended me to change my work schedule.
Firstly, I asked to my manager, but there is no postion available for daytime. Therefore, I have to change my mind to switch to another employment.
I have not only 5 year experience in management but also 3 year experice as a retail store supervisor.
I would like to request to you to help in finding another job in simaliar sector. I am willing to work any retail store or any other production company.
I hope you will consider my request and let me know about any other job option soon.
Best regards,
Navjot Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the reasons for seeking a new job, the desired kind of work, and the request for the friend's assistance. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or straightforward, preventing a higher score. For instance, while you explain that late-night shifts at Canada Bread are causing health issues and that your manager had no daytime positions, the description of the desired job remains somewhat broad when you state you are willing to work in any retail store or production company. To reach the next level, you could expand more fully on the specific working conditions or type of role you prefer, providing richer and more detailed descriptions of your career aspirations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical sequence of ideas, moving smoothly from the opening greeting to your current situation, your reasons for moving, and finally your request for help. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct points. Cohesion within and between sentences is generally clear, though certain devices are somewhat mechanical or basic, such as using 'Firstly' and 'Therefore'. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional lapses occur, such as the transition into the fourth paragraph where sentence linking could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, you would need to demonstrate more flexible and sophisticated use of cohesive devices, ensuring that transitions between paragraphs flow naturally without relying on formulaic sequencing markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message effectively. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to employment and management, such as 'production company' and 'retail store supervisor'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text that show a lack of precision. Examples include spelling 'assistent' instead of assistant, 'docter' instead of doctor, 'postion' instead of position, and 'simaliar' instead of similar. Furthermore, phrases like 'getting some health issues' or 'request to you to help in finding' show slight inappropriacies in collocation and word form. These inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they prevent the vocabulary score from rising into higher bands where greater precision and naturalness are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using structures such as 'As you know, I am working as...' and 'I have not only 5 year experience... but also...'. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as omission of plural markers ('5 year experience' instead of 5 years of experience; '3 year experice'), missing articles ('in retail sector' instead of in the retail sector), and prepositions inside patterns ('asked to my manager' instead of asked my manager). However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your meaning easily. To move higher, you would need to produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences using a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with consistent accuracy.
