Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three parts of the prompt by explaining the reason for looking for a new job, describing the preferred role in the banking sector, and asking the friend for help. The purpose of the letter is clear from the opening lines, and the tone is appropriately informal and friendly. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven; while the reasons for wanting a banking job and the request for assistance are clearly stated, other areas, such as the specific type of role desired, lack detailed elaboration. The ideas presented are relevant to the scenario, but some parts feel slightly repetitive or under-developed, placing the response right on the threshold of fully extending every point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from explaining the career change to describing the desired job and finally making the request for help. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as background information, job preferences, and the closing request. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the transitions between sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the use of repetitive phrasing like "in banking sector" across multiple sentences. While the organization is clear enough to guide the reader easily, more flexible and varied cohesive devices would elevate the flow of the text to the next level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general workplace and career context, successfully attempting less common items such as "national organizations", "banking sector", and "competitive salary". However, there are notable word choice and word form errors throughout the response, such as "My study is done recently" instead of recently completed, "master programme" instead of master's degree, and "financial independent" instead of financially independent. Spelling is generally accurate, but awkward phrasing like "intersted in these sector" and "particular filed" indicates that word choice and collocation are still developing. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score by preventing greater precision and natural fluency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to construct multi-clause sentences such as "It is good time for me to find a new job for me because I can easily apply..." There are, however, several persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding tense usage ("is graduate", "is completing", "have much experience... from last three years"), missing articles ("in banking sector"), and prepositions. For instance, "could you please me to find" contains a missing verb element, and subject-verb agreement occasionally slips. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication, allowing the writing to successfully meet the standard for this level while still showing room for improvement in structural accuracy.
