Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the bullet points provided in the prompt, which places it at this level. You have successfully explained why you are looking for a new job by mentioning your current financial crisis in Pakistan, described the kind of job you would like to have by stating your desire to be an international teacher and offering to do other roles like a Public Relations Officer or Front Desk position, and asked your friend for help. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation of the financial crisis and the request for help are quite clear, but the description of the ideal job remains somewhat basic and brief. To reach higher bands, you would need to extend and support all your ideas with greater detail and clarity throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows an informal letter format with an appropriate opening greeting. However, the organisation lacks clear overall progression due to the heavy reliance on a single, continuous block of text rather than separate paragraphs for different ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, with sentences linked together loosely using basic connectors such as 'and' and 'but'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the main reason behind writing this letter you is that', where the flow is disrupted. To improve in this area, you should divide your ideas into clear paragraphs—such as one for your news and reasons, one for the job types, and one for the concluding request—and use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to communicate your basic message. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'financial crisis', 'international teacher', and 'Public Relation Officer', but there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect this level. For example, 'pretisgious' is misspelled, 'good in teaching' uses an inaccurate prepositional collocation instead of 'good at', and 'other do jobs' has awkward word order. Additionally, 'kind regard' lacks the correct plural form. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they highlight limitations in your lexical control. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on accurate word formation, natural collocations, correct spelling, and expanding your range of less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, consisting mostly of simple and compound sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms that often contain errors. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause some difficulty for the reader, such as missing articles ('find job in KSA'), incorrect verb patterns ('the teacher job is not available I can other do jobs'), and awkward phrasing in relative or subordinate clauses. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, particularly around proper nouns and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally understandable despite these issues, the presence of frequent errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher band. To improve, you need to exercise better control over basic sentence structures, articles, prepositions, and verb forms while incorporating error-free complex sentences.
