Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task, earning a solid intermediate-to-upper score. You clearly explain why you left your previous job by mentioning the long distance, high hostel fees, low pay, and poor working conditions. You also describe the ideal job you are looking for, such as standard working hours, a friendly atmosphere, and proximity to your home, and you appropriately ask your friend for help. While all parts are addressed, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or brief. For instance, explaining the exact nature of the career growth you desire or providing a bit more detail about your past role would push your ideas further. However, the tone is appropriately informal and friendly, fitting the general letter format nicely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and a logical progression of ideas, moving smoothly from your past situation to your future expectations and finally your request for assistance. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as your reasons for leaving and your requirements for a new position. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or abrupt due to missing spacing after punctuation marks and simple transitional links. Referencing is generally clear, but smoother cohesive devices between sentences would help the text flow more naturally and elevate the organisational structure to the next level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as "career growth strikes upward" and "working environment was hectic." However, there are several word choice and word form inaccuracies, such as writing "convinent" instead of comfortable or convenient, "overtimed job," and "positive response." Spelling and lexical errors occur throughout the letter, which occasionally disrupts the natural flow of reading. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that word forms and spelling are accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is somewhat hindered by frequent errors in punctuation, spacing, and phrasing. There are notable missing spaces after periods and commas, such as in "How are you.I hope you are in good spirit." Additionally, issues with prepositions, articles, and verb forms appear, such as "with in city nearest to my house" and "on daily basis." While these errors rarely impede overall communication, the presence of frequent mistakes across different sentence types prevents the grammar score from rising higher. Practising complex sentence control and punctuation will greatly improve this area.
