Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Anu,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to tell you that i have decided to look for a new job and i would really appreciate if you help.

The main reason i am looking for a new job is that my current job does not offer any many career opportunities for my growth. I have gained some valuable experience now i would like to find a new position where i can develop my skills.

I iam particularly interested in finding a job in Human Resources,as i have recently completed my MBA and i would like to start building my career in this field, I am looking for a full time position with a company provides me positive working environment and opportunities

As you have been working in this field for some times, i was wondering if you could let me know if hear about any suitable job openings. i would also share my resume with anyone who might be hiring.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I really appreciate your help.

Best wishes,

Karandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you explain that your current role offers limited career development, identify Human Resources as your preferred field, and ask Anu to tell you about suitable openings and share your résumé with potential employers. The reason for moving is relevant, and mentioning your MBA supports your career goal. The request is polite and appropriate for a friend. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify what kind of HR role or workplace you are seeking—for example, an entry-level HR position or a company of a particular size—and explain briefly how Anu’s experience could help. The response also includes the required opening and a suitable closing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall sequence: greeting and purpose, reason for leaving, preferred work, request for help, and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “The main reason” and “As you have been working in this field” make the relationships between ideas clear. The progression is generally logical, but some sentences run together or end abruptly, particularly the description of the desired position, which finishes with “opportunities” without completing the thought. The request paragraph also combines several actions without a smooth transition. Use complete sentences and clearer links between the job criteria and your request to make cohesion more consistently natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of relevant employment vocabulary, including “career opportunities,” “valuable experience,” “develop my skills,” “Human Resources,” and “suitable job openings.” These choices communicate your purpose and show some ability to use topic-specific language. However, several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “does not offer any many career opportunities,” “positive working environment,” and “for some times.” The repeated use of general terms such as “job,” “position,” and “opportunities” also limits precision. Aim for more natural collocations and specify the type of HR work you want. Careful proofreading would also help with spelling and capitalization, including “resume” and “I.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as “I have gained some valuable experience; now I would like to find a new position where I can develop my skills.” The intended meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “I would really appreciate if you help” needs a more complete pattern, such as “I would really appreciate it if you could help.” In “a company provides me,” a relative clause marker is needed, and the sentence ending “opportunities” is incomplete. There are also inconsistent capital letters for “I” and punctuation problems where commas join or separate clauses. Check sentence boundaries, verb forms, and clause structure to improve accuracy while retaining varied sentences.
