Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Priscilla,
I hope you are doing well. How is the family? I'm writing to let you know that I'm currently job in the job market.
As you already know, I resigned from my previous job two weeks ago due to my relocation plans to Lagos State so as to be closer to my family. The moving as been quite stressful but I'm already settling down and adjusting to the new environment.
I'm currently seeking a role in customer service. My years of experience in hospitality has developed my communication and interpersonal skills which will be very useful in a customer representative department. Remember I was awarded most friendly employee of the year?
Kindly let me know if you hear of any openings or have any recommendations.Let me also know if you have any sggestions on other platforms to look into. Looking forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Omotayo

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three points clearly: you explain that you resigned because you are relocating to be closer to family, identify customer service as your preferred field, and ask Priscilla to tell you about openings or recommendations. The reference to your hospitality experience and employee award gives useful support for your choice of work, while the friendly greeting and sign-off suit the audience. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain what type of customer-service role or workplace you are targeting, and make the request for help more specific—for example, ask whether your friend could introduce you to a contact or review your CV. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, sensible order: a friendly opening, the reason for leaving your previous job, your preferred work, and a request for assistance. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “As you already know” and “Looking forward to hearing from you” support the letter’s conversational flow. The ideas are generally linked effectively, though the transition from your relocation to your job search could be smoother by explicitly connecting your move with the need to find work in Lagos. The final request contains two related questions that could be separated or linked more cleanly. Also ensure there is a space after the full stop in “recommendations.Let” to keep the presentation polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a personal letter, including relevant expressions such as “relocation plans,” “interpersonal skills,” “openings,” and “recommendations.” These choices communicate your situation and employment interests clearly, and the tone is appropriately friendly. Some phrasing is less natural or precise: “currently job in the job market” does not express your meaning idiomatically, and “customer representative department” is an awkward description of the role or workplace. There are also spelling slips in “sggestions” and “as been”; the latter is a word-form/spelling issue rather than a grammar point. More precise employment vocabulary and careful proofreading would make your language more flexible and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a useful mix of simple and more complex structures, such as “I resigned from my previous job two weeks ago due to my relocation plans … so as to be closer to my family” and the relative clause “which will be very useful.” Most sentences are understandable, and you use past and present forms to distinguish your previous job from your current search. Some grammatical control is still uneven: “My years of experience in hospitality has developed” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “The moving as been” contains an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence, “I'm currently job in the job market,” is also structurally incomplete. Review agreement and verb forms, and revise that sentence to use a complete construction such as “I’m currently looking for a job.”
