Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rohit,
I am fine and hope you are in good health too. I am writing this letter to share that I am seeking for another employment.
As you are aware I have been working at The Home Depot during my entire stay in Canada as a student, I shall now find a new job as a personal supprt worker. Primarily this is attributed to immigration requirements. I am about to get my work permit in a couple of weeks and have a limited time to apply for my permanent residence. As a paramount reuirement for the same, I must have a job in my field of study which is healthcare and safety. This includes working as a personal support worker or a caregiver in either hospitals or long term care homes. Working on such positions for residents at their homes can also be considered.
I remember that you once mentioned to me that your friend Adarsh works for Nova Scotia Health. Therefore, I request you to ask him if there is any job vacancy inthat organization and help me in my job hunt. I would truly appreciate your help. Rest everything is fine. Hope to see you around soon.
Yours

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly. The reason for changing jobs is specific: you explain that your upcoming work permit and permanent-residence application make employment in your field important. You also identify suitable roles—personal support worker or caregiver—and possible settings, including hospitals, care homes and residents’ homes. The request is direct and actionable, asking Rohit to contact Adarsh about vacancies at Nova Scotia Health. These details extend and support the main ideas. To make the letter even more fully developed, explain briefly what attracts you to this type of work or what relevant experience you could offer. Overall, the purpose and position remain clear throughout, with only a little room for further development and a more personal tone in places.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: a friendly opening, an explanation of your circumstances and preferred work, then a request for help and a warm closing. Linking phrases such as “As you are aware,” “Primarily,” and “Therefore” help show how the ideas relate, and the reference to Adarsh makes the request easy to follow. The main opportunity is to make the organisation more visibly letter-like by separating the explanation and job request into distinct paragraphs. Some transitions, particularly “Rest everything is fine,” feel abrupt after the request; a more connected closing would improve the flow. Cohesion is generally effective, though a few links could be smoother and less formulaic.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for explaining employment and immigration circumstances, including “work permit,” “permanent residence,” “field of study,” and “vacancy.” The specific job titles and workplaces make your meaning clear. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “I am seeking for another employment” and “As a paramount requirement,” but these are not natural collocations for a friendly letter. Spelling slips such as “supprt,” “reuirement,” and “inthat” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrasing rather than elevated wording: for example, “looking for a new job” and “an important requirement” would fit better. Your range is adequate, but more consistent control of collocation and spelling would strengthen it.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the sentence beginning “As you are aware” and the explanation of your immigration timeline. Most of the message remains understandable, and the request is expressed clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “I am seeking for another employment,” the verb pattern is incorrect; write “I am seeking another job” or “I am looking for another job.” The long sentence beginning “As you are aware” joins several ideas without clear punctuation, so splitting it would improve control. “Working on such positions” also has an awkward preposition pattern. Check sentence boundaries and verb patterns carefully; these changes would make your varied structures more consistently accurate.
