Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Martin,

I hope you are doing great these days. You know very well that I resigned from the previous company because I am unable to work a full-time position. My winter semester is going to be start from next week. I need to attend in person classes for three days in a week. So this could be hactic for me to continue my previous job. I am looking for some part-time postion now.

I would prefer to working only weekends and in the evenings. I am currently searching some work from home clerical position. So I could easily work from home and this might be not affected to my studies. Clerical or accountant assistant position experience is directly meet with my fianancial management course.

I know that you are currently working in the human resource department as a HR coordinator. Can you please let me know if anything is available in your organization.

Regards

Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you explain that your studies make full-time work difficult, specify a preference for part-time weekend and evening work, and ask Martin about vacancies at his organisation. The reason for changing jobs is relevant, and the connection between clerical or accounting work and your financial-management course adds useful detail. Your request is polite and direct. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly what makes a home-based role especially suitable, or clarify the type of duties you can offer. The letter could also end with a more complete friendly closing, but overall its purpose and intended reader are clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a sensible order: you explain your circumstances, describe the work you want, and then ask your friend for help. Linking expressions such as “So” and “I know that” help connect the ideas, and the letter format makes the purpose easy to follow. However, the response is presented as one continuous block, so separating the reason for leaving, job preferences, and request into paragraphs would make the progression clearer. Some links are also a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So.” Use a wider range of natural transitions, and ensure each sentence connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and job preferences, including “full-time position,” “part-time,” “work from home,” and “human resource department.” The language is generally understandable, and terms related to your studies and employment make the letter relevant. Some spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “hactic,” “postion,” and “fianancial,” while “clerical position” and “accountant assistant position” could be expressed more naturally. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common employment collocations. More precise phrases for your availability and preferred duties would also help you express your plans with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “I need to attend in person classes for three days in a week” and “So I could easily work from home and this might be not affected to my studies.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “is going to be start” instead of “is going to start,” “I would prefer to working” instead of “I would prefer to work,” and “this might be not affected” instead of “this might not affect.” There are also issues with articles and prepositions, as in “a full-time position” and “three days a week.” Practise these patterns while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
