Student answer (Band 4.5)

Dear Ahmad,

I hope this letter finds you well.I am writing to inform you that I am searching for a new job in my close vicinity.

As you know that I have left my previous job, because it was inaccessible for me and I barely reach on time, therefore I decided to find job near to my home.

I would like to have any job because I am flexible to working in different departments. But specifically

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You begin appropriately with “Dear Ahmad” and explain the main reason for seeking a new job: your previous workplace was difficult to reach and you want work near home. However, the response addresses the task only partially. The preferred job is described very generally (“any job” and “flexible to working”), and the sentence beginning “But specifically” is unfinished. Most importantly, you do not ask Ahmad to help you find a job, so one required part is missing. The response is also substantially below the required minimum of 150 words, leaving little room to develop the reasons, describe suitable work, or make a clear request. Complete all three points and add relevant details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The ideas follow a basic sequence: you greet Ahmad, explain that you are looking for work, and give a reason connected to your previous job. This gives the letter some overall direction. However, the response ends abruptly at “But specifically,” so the description of the job is incomplete and there is no closing or request to your friend. The linking in “because … therefore” is also awkward, and the paragraphing does not help distinguish the reason, job preferences, and request. Organise the letter into short paragraphs, use clear transitions, and finish with a direct question asking Ahmad to help.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough relevant vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “searching for a new job,” “previous job,” and “departments.” “Inaccessible” shows an attempt to choose a more specific word, although it is not the most natural way to describe a workplace that is difficult to reach. Some expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “close vicinity” and “job near to my home,” while “any job” does not clearly convey your preferences. The unfinished phrase “But specifically” also prevents you from showing the vocabulary needed to describe a particular role. Aim for natural collocations and name the type of work, location, or working conditions you want.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “As you know that I have left my previous job, because…” The main meaning is generally understandable, but there are errors in sentence construction and punctuation. “As you know that” is not formed naturally; use “As you know, I left…” The clause “I barely reach on time” needs a suitable tense and structure, such as “I could barely arrive on time.” The sentence also joins “because” and “therefore” awkwardly. There is a missing space after “well.”, and “But specifically” is left as a fragment. Use complete sentences and check tense, clause links, and punctuation.
