Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Goo,
I have decided to have leave my old duties and explore new options and have better opportunities. As we all know, my previous job as a security guard does not pay that much and I was practically living from paycheck to paycheck. It was also mentally and physicially draining just for the fact that my schedule is always on graveyard shift.
I do have experiences with healthcare administration, patient coordination, customer support and sales. As an employee, I value time, respect and authority. I am writing you this letter to kindly request if there are any opening in you company that aligns with my previous roles.
For the past years that we've been hanging out, I have learned a lot from you, your experiences and your work ethic. I have heard so much about your company, its core values, salaries and benefits. It would be much appreciated if you kindly refer me to your hiring mananger.
Respectfully,
Aljohn

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that security work pays poorly and involves a draining night schedule, mention your experience in several fields, and ask your friend to refer you to a hiring manager. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. However, the kind of job you want is not fully described: asking for an opening that “aligns with my previous roles” leaves the reader unsure which role or working conditions you are seeking. The request for help is also focused mainly on a referral, rather than inviting your friend to suggest or search for suitable vacancies. Specify a target position and the qualities you want in it to develop this part more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: reasons for leaving, relevant experience and preferences, then a request for assistance. Paragraphing supports this progression, and the closing is appropriate for a letter to a friend. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The transition from listing your experience to “As an employee, I value time, respect and authority” does not clearly explain how these values relate to the job you want. The second paragraph also combines your qualifications, preferences and request in a way that makes the main purpose slightly less focused. Use clearer links to show how your experience leads to a specific job goal, and make the request a distinct, direct point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “living from paycheck to paycheck,” “mentally and physically draining,” “patient coordination,” and “core values.” These phrases communicate your circumstances and experience clearly, and the tone is generally suitable for a personal letter. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, such as “have leave my old duties,” “any opening,” and “hiring mananger.” “Authority” is also unclear as a quality you value in a workplace. Check spelling and choose more natural expressions for leaving a job, asking about vacancies, and describing workplace priorities. More precise job-related vocabulary would also help you identify the role you are seeking.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as the explanation that your previous job “does not pay that much” and the sentence describing your schedule and its effects. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. “I have decided to have leave” has an incorrect verb construction; write “I have decided to leave.” In “if there are any opening in you company,” the plural noun and possessive form need correction: “any openings in your company.” The sentence beginning “It was also mentally and physically draining just for the fact that…” is awkwardly constructed and shifts from past work to a present-tense schedule. Review verb patterns, agreement and tense consistency, while retaining the range of sentence structures you already attempt.
