Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mehak,
I hope you're fine. I have quit my last job due to some personal reasons. I had informed you about my spinal surgery. Due to this I had to quit my job. The employer asked me to quit as they can not offer any compensation during my surgery. Also, they cant wait for my comeback. Its been six months since my surgery done. Now I am completely fine and seeking for job.
I would like to have a hybrid job. My core expertise are in Marketing and CSR. I believe marketing job would be highly convenient for me as i have been in this field from the last ten years. I know all the pros and cons and the challanges I may face in this field. I have made my mind already If I faced any of these problems, what steps I would follow.
I heard your company is looking for marketing manager. I want you to recommend me there. I can provide you my CV, and would request you to look for some jobs for me. I want you to use your maximum contacts to help me. I am aware of your capabilities and your huge social circle background.
Regards
Madiha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: you explain that you left after spinal surgery and a lack of support from your employer, describe your preference for hybrid marketing work, and ask Mehak to recommend you and search through her contacts. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear throughout. You also extend the request with a specific opportunity at her company, which makes the letter relevant and personal. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain briefly what you value in a hybrid role or what kind of marketing position you are targeting. The request to use her “maximum contacts” is clear, but could be phrased more tactfully for a friend. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some room to develop the job preferences further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the reason for leaving comes first, followed by your preferred work and then the request for help. Separate paragraphs make these stages easy to identify, and links such as “Due to this,” “Also,” and “Now” help the reader follow the account. The progression is coherent overall, though some connections feel mechanical or abrupt. For example, “I have made my mind already If I faced any of these problems” shifts suddenly from your experience to a hypothetical situation. The final paragraph also combines a recommendation request, a CV offer, and a broad request for contacts without clearly prioritising them. Smoother transitions and clearer references would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “spinal surgery,” “hybrid job,” “core expertise,” and “recommend me.” These choices communicate the situation and employment preferences clearly. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “pros and cons” and “social circle,” but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “seeking for job,” “huge social circle background,” and “marketing job would be highly convenient” do not sound idiomatic in context. Spelling and informal contractions also need attention, including “challanges,” “cant,” and “can not.” More precise collocations and a consistently appropriate friendly tone would strengthen the vocabulary while preserving the clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “I have quit my last job due to some personal reasons” and “I believe marketing job would be highly convenient for me as…” The meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “Its been six months since my surgery done,” which needs a complete verb construction, and “My core expertise are,” where the subject and verb do not agree. The sentence beginning “I have made my mind already If I faced…” has unclear clause structure and punctuation. There are also missing articles and inconsistent capitalisation, as in “as i have been.” Work on accurate verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries; these corrections would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
