Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Friend,

I hope you are doing well and having a great time at your new work place. I am also looking for a new job. I have been working in a college from last 4 years which is near my house. But, unfortunately, it is now relocationg. It's new location is almost 1 hour away from my house. So, it would be difficult for me to go so far.

I am teaching English and Communication Skills to college students. I want to continue my experience in these disciplines as I have completed my masters in English. I am looking for new job that will actually has a suitable distance from my house. I can also work in administration team as you know I have a little experience in that as well.

I would be grateful to you, if you help me in finding a new job. You work in a well-reputed college that is near my house. If there will be any vacancy available, please let me know. I would also appreciate, if you refer me somewhere else that is suitable for me.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

X.Y.Z.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three points clearly: you explain that your college is relocating and the new site would be an hour away, describe your preference to continue teaching English and Communication Skills, and ask your friend to alert you to vacancies or recommend you elsewhere. The reason for changing jobs is specific and relevant, and mentioning your master’s degree and administrative experience helps explain your suitability. The request is polite and appropriate for a friend. To develop the ideas further, you could clarify what features matter beyond distance—for example, the type of institution or preferred responsibilities—and make the request more personal by referring to your friend’s knowledge of local opportunities. Overall, the purpose and intended message remain clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter follows a clear progression: you open with a friendly greeting, explain your current situation, describe the work you want, and then ask for help. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and links such as “So” and “as you know” help connect ideas. The reader can follow the reason for your job search without difficulty. Some transitions are a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “I am” and “I would,” and the final request contains several related points that could be grouped more smoothly. You could vary the links and use clearer referencing—for instance, connect the relocation directly to your preference for a nearby college. The closing is understandable, though a more familiar sign-off would better match the letter’s friendly purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for explaining the situation and the kind of work you want. Phrases such as “relocation,” “Communication Skills,” “administration team,” and “vacancy” convey relevant details, while “well-reputed college” helps specify the kind of contact you have in mind. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and a spelling error: “relocationg” should be “relocating,” and “new work place” and “suitable distance” are not natural collocations in this context. “Continue my experience” also does not express your meaning idiomatically; you could say that you want to continue working in these fields. More precise, natural phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and confident.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “as I have completed my masters in English” and the conditional request “If there will be any vacancy available.” Most grammatical problems do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but some errors remain. For example, “from last 4 years” needs a present-perfect time expression such as “for the last four years,” and “a new job that will actually has” has an incorrect verb form; use “that actually has” or “that will have.” In “It’s new location,” the possessive form should be “Its.” Review articles and prepositions as well, as in “looking for new job” and “help me in finding.” Greater accuracy in these patterns would strengthen the letter.
