Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sam,
Hey! whats's up? It's been ages since we last caught up. Anyways, I jusy wanted to drop you a quick note to ask for your help in finding a new job. As, i have left my previous work.
As you know, students can work only 24 hours on legal terms, however, my boss is looking for someone, who can work full- time or atleast 5 days a week. As, a part timer i need to find some other job.
Actually, i have classes 4 days in a week, therefore, i am looking for that kind of place, where i can work on weekends or on evenings. Basically, I am looking for restaurent jobs such as Tim hortons, wendy's, because they are flexible with their schdeules.
Do you have any vacancy at your workplace? I have an experinece of customer service and cashier's as well, which i think is relly useful for restaurent job. Furthermore, please recommend me some staffing aganecy names , i would like to reach out them to ask about regsteration process.
Ring me up anytime to discuss more.
Best Regards,
Vishav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that your former employer wanted someone available full-time, describe your preference for weekend or evening restaurant work, and ask Sam about vacancies and staffing agencies. The reasons and requests are relevant, and details such as your classes and customer-service experience help support them. The letter also maintains an appropriate friendly purpose throughout. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the situation around leaving your previous job—for example, explain whether you resigned because the schedule conflicted with your studies—and make the help you want from Sam more specific, such as asking them to introduce you to a manager or share particular openings. This would extend the ideas rather than leaving some details general.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you open informally, explain the job-search reason, describe your preferred work, and then ask for help before closing. Paragraph breaks make the main stages easy to follow, and links such as “As you know,” “therefore,” and “Furthermore” show how ideas relate. This gives the response a coherent arrangement. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward: “As” is used to begin two sentences where a more direct connection would be smoother, and “Actually” does not add a clear contrast or correction. The request about vacancies, experience, and agencies could also be grouped and ordered more deliberately. Use fewer, more precise transitions and make references between sentences clearer to strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the job-search situation, including “part timer,” “customer service,” “cashier,” “vacancy,” and “staffing agency.” The informal expressions “drop you a quick note” and “Ring me up” suit a letter to a friend. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “restaurent,” “schdeules,” “staffing aganecy names,” and “reach out them.” Some wording is also vague, such as “that kind of place.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main message, but they limit precision and control. Check spelling carefully and learn common combinations such as “apply to an agency” and “flexible working hours”; use “restaurant positions” for a more precise description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “As you know, students can work only 24 hours…” and “Actually, i have classes 4 days in a week, therefore…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, and the letter includes some subordinate clauses. However, errors in sentence construction and punctuation recur. “As, i have left my previous work” is an incomplete, awkwardly punctuated clause, while “Do you have any vacancy at your workplace?” needs a plural form or a different construction. In “i have an experinece of customer service and cashier's as well, which…”, the article, possessive form, and comma spacing need attention. Practise joining clauses with accurate punctuation and check articles, plurals, and capitalisation to make your sentence patterns more reliable.
