Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Raman,

How'r you? I'm planning to search a new job.

I'm currently doing a labour job, and it's not related to my field of study. It is high time to get serious about my career. So, I decided to get a job related to my studies. Things are getting expensive; to afford them, I need to earn good money.

As I've a Bachelor's in Early childhood education. I'm considering looking for an early childcare educator job. Guess what?. Pay is really good in this profession, and I will get time to spend with young children. I believe it would be fun working with children.

I need a favour from you. As you are in the same profession therefore, it would be great help if you provide me a list of good daycares, where I can apply. One more think, Could you ask your employer If there is any hiring going on at your location.

I'm waiting for you reply. Just imaging we working togrther.

Love,

Arshdeep.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you explain that your current labouring work is unrelated to your studies and that rising costs make better earnings important; you identify early-childhood education as your preferred field; and you ask Raman for daycare recommendations and to check for vacancies with his employer. These details make your purpose clear and maintain an appropriate friendly tone. The reasons for changing jobs are relevant, although the financial motivation is stated quite generally, and the description of the role focuses mainly on enjoying time with children and good pay. To strengthen the response further, add a specific detail about the work you hope to do or the kind of workplace you are seeking, and make the request for help slightly more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, sensible progression: you introduce your job search, explain your reasons, describe the role you want, and then ask your friend for help. Separate paragraphs make these stages easy to follow, and phrases such as “So” and “As you are in the same profession” help connect ideas. The closing also suits a personal letter. Some links are less smooth, however: “As you are in the same profession therefore” combines two linking forms unnecessarily, while “One more think” introduces the second request abruptly. Use a simpler transition, such as “Since you work in the same field, could you…?” and connect the requests more naturally to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “field of study,” “early childcare educator,” “daycares,” and “hiring.” The tone is generally friendly and appropriate for writing to a friend. However, the range is limited, and several noticeable word-choice, spelling, or collocation errors reduce precision: “search a new job” is not the natural phrase, “One more think” appears to be a spelling error, and “Just imaging” and “togrther” are also inaccurate. “Good money” and “fun” are understandable but informal and general. Aim to use more precise employment vocabulary and check spelling carefully; this would make the letter sound more fluent and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “I'm currently doing a labour job, and it's not related to my field of study” and “As you are in the same profession therefore, it would be great help if you provide me…” The main message remains understandable, but errors occur across sentence construction and punctuation. “As I've a Bachelor's in Early childhood education” is an incomplete sentence, and “As you are in the same profession therefore” has an incorrect clause structure. There are also issues with articles and forms, as in “it would be great help” and “I'm waiting for you reply.” Review how dependent clauses are joined, and proofread apostrophes, sentence boundaries, and article use. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
