Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I hope you're doing well. I'm writing to tell you that I am looking for a new job. There are several reasons why I have decided to look for a new job. This is particularly because I want to gain some experience. Moreover, earning a considerable amount of money is also important to live a healthy life.
To be honest, I'd like to have an assistant job in IT field because I have completed Maters in Information Technology. Although working in IT field is quite difficult, I believe people can also earn competitive salary. Moreover, I basically meet all the requirements of this kind of job.
I would appreciate it if you could help me to find any job in Information Technology. It would also be great if you could assist me to make better resume for me. I may move to another city as well if I find a new job in other city.
I hope to look forward to your prompt response.
Best wishes,
Rupinder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you want more experience and better earnings, identify an IT assistant role, and ask Raman for help finding work and improving your résumé. The purpose and friendly relationship are clear, and the request for help is appropriately direct. The reasons for leaving your current job are less fully explained: “I want to gain some experience” and earning more are relevant, but you do not say what is unsatisfactory about your present position. The type of role is also quite broad, and “I basically meet all the requirements” is not supported with an example. Adding a specific reason for changing jobs and one or two details about your preferred role would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, gives reasons and job preferences, then makes a request and closes appropriately. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Moreover” and “Although” show how some ideas relate. However, the repeated use of “Moreover” makes the linking somewhat mechanical, and the final paragraph combines the request for job-search help, résumé assistance, and possible relocation without clearly connecting them. “I hope to look forward to your prompt response” also makes the closing progression awkward. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the relationship between each request and your plans clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “competitive salary,” “requirements,” and “Information Technology.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, for example “I would appreciate it if you could help me.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “assistant job in IT field” needs more natural phrasing, “make better resume for me” is awkward, and “prompt response” sounds overly formal for a letter to a friend. “Maters” is also a spelling error, and “earn a considerable amount of money” is less precise than a direct reference to salary. Aim for accurate collocations and a consistent, friendly register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. For example, “Although working in IT field is quite difficult, I believe people can also earn competitive salary” attempts a subordinate clause, while “I would appreciate it if you could help me” uses a polite conditional structure. Meaning remains clear throughout, but some grammatical errors persist. Articles are missing in phrases such as “in IT field” and “earn competitive salary”; “a better résumé” would also need an article. The construction “I hope to look forward to” is not grammatically natural, and “help me to find any job” would be clearer as “help me find a job.” Review article use and common verb patterns, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
