Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am your neighbor living in the sixth floor of the canvas apartment. I am writing this letter regarding the constant noise from your apartment which is disturbing my family.
Every night around nine o'clock loud noise has been coming from your floor for few hours and its constantly bothering me and my children for sleeping. Similarly, during day time we are facing similar situation.
We have been living in the same building for few years and consider as a good neighbor I don't want to compliant to management.
Most of the time disturbance is coming from cooking and children playing football on the floor. If you prepare your meal before seven o'clock it might help us. Additionally, kids can play the ball on the football ground which are next to the supermarket close to the apartment.
I trust this issue will be solved at your earliest convenience.
Regards,
keshav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact, and suggesting solutions. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although the opening 'Dear Sir or Madam' is slightly formal for a neighbourly dispute. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat brief. For example, the suggestion to play football at a public ground is a practical solution, but the explanation of the problem could be more detailed to fully convey the frustration. Overall, the task requirements are met, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body, and conclusion. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Similarly' is used, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, although the phrasing 'consider as a good neighbor' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the proposed solutions, which helps the reader navigate the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their message clearly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'constant noise' and 'earliest convenience'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'living in the sixth floor' (should be 'on') and 'don't want to compliant' (should be 'complain'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and prepositions. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility seen in higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'for few hours' (missing 'a'), 'during day time' (missing 'the'), and 'the football ground which are' (should be 'is'). Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. Despite these errors, the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, such as the conditional 'If you prepare your meal before seven o'clock it might help us.' These errors do not prevent understanding, but they occur frequently enough to keep the score in the 6.0 range.
