Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 106 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have identified the situation and explained why it is a problem, the final bullet point regarding a solution is completely missing. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and expand your ideas to meet the length requirement. For example, you could have elaborated on the specific times the noise occurs and proposed a concrete solution, such as a meeting or a specific quiet time agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is divided into short paragraphs, which is appropriate for the format. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited; for instance, the transition between the problem and the impact is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'as a result' to connect your sentences more fluidly. The lack of a concluding paragraph or a formal sign-off also affects the overall structure and coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'show my concern' and 'unnecessary noise'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the context of living in an apartment, such as 'disturbance', 'inconsiderate', or 'soundproofing'. Additionally, ensure you use correct collocations; for example, instead of 'take sleep', use 'get some sleep' or 'rest'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the noise', 'the morning'), capitalization ('i' should be 'I'), and punctuation. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. For example, 'As i am living in downstair apartment' contains errors in preposition and article usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, consistent capitalization, and incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures to demonstrate control over your writing.
