Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear neighbor,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the complaints I do have with the noise coming from your apartment.
I live in the flat number 404, exactly below yours. I live with my grand-parents, and the sudden loud sound from your place made them panic each time. Also, I noticed from the past two weeks, you are having late night parties which is not allowed in our apartment. Personally, I do not have any problem with that, but try to keep the noise low because, it is disturbing my sleeping cycle.
As a solution for this issue, I do have some suggestion. When you are partying, kindly close all the windows. Another this is, put the volume of the music system always in minimum. Wear footwear to avoid the foot step sound. I hope these will help to reduce all the unnecessary noices.
I hope you understand.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: describing the noise, explaining the impact, and suggesting solutions. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly towards being overly direct in places. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though they could be developed with more nuance to achieve a higher band. For instance, the impact on your grandparents is a strong point, but it could be expanded slightly to show the severity of the disturbance. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow, moving from the problem to the impact and finally to the proposed solutions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Also' and 'As a solution for this issue', which help link the sentences together. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural, sophisticated connection between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'disturbing my sleeping cycle' and 'unnecessary noices'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'noices' (noises) and 'flat number 404' (usually 'flat 404'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The range is adequate, but more variety in descriptive language would enhance the overall quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I noticed from the past two weeks' (should be 'over the past two weeks') and 'put the volume... in minimum' (should be 'at a minimum'). Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and preposition choice. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases will help improve your accuracy.
